I go by the name Michael De Soto, though, people mostly choose Mike or De Soto.

Depends on the mood of the situation I guess.

I had a girlfriend one time that thought Michael was an older more intimate sounding name. It sounded funny to me at the time, but I think she was on to something. It looks good in print, that’s for sure. Michael De Soto’s what I go by.

You need a Mercator projection and some push pins to track me down: Burke, Virginia to Muscat, Oman to Alexandria, Virginia to Panama City, Panama to Springfield, Virginia to Bucharest, Romania to Vienna, Austria to Centreville, Virginia to Vienna, Austria to Richmond, Virginia to Perth, West Australia to Arlington, Virginia, to Vienna, Virginia, to Richmond, Virginia.

And that’s just the places I’ve lived. One of these days I’ll get to writing down all the places I’ve been.

I’ve had a thousand different hobbies. I kid you not. My latest dive takes me into the world of photography. But I’ve been around others. These days I’m feeling the shutterbug might stick. I shoot with a Canon 300D and a quality 50mm 1.4 lens. I recently bought the cheapest SLR I could find — a Canon Rebel K2. I want to have film to fall back on every now and then. I’ve still got an old school Canon AE-1 fitted with 35-105mm zoom lens that’s just eating dust. I don’t use it much because it uses a different mount than my EOS equipped light boxes.

I keep, or will keep, a gallery of my work somewhere on this site.

The only time I ever cried while watching a professional sporting event was when the Washington Redskins played their last game at RFK stadium. Enough said.

That was until the Joe Gibbs second coming. I ached with cavernous joy and terrible sorrow.

Now it’s mostly a terrible sorrow.

I’ve had a lot of pets. My family is not a pet family. I do not like pets: Two cats my mom had when I was born in Burke. Darrell Green the cricket from third grade science class. Darrell Green the green snake I found in my back yard. Tiger and Panther the ally cats my family took home in Bucharest. Ashley the dog my family adopted in Centreville. Louie (aka Darrell Green) the bird my sister got for Christmas 2002. More than thirty assorted fish purchased over a two-year period in Perth. They were all named Darrell Green. They all died.

I now have a cat named Bishop. He’s a pain in my ass.

Mexican food is my favorite kind of food. Though I’ve never been to Mexico, a weekly visit to the local Mexican eatery between the ages of five and 10 ensured that I’d be branded Acapulco. Now the favorite juke joint is a place called El Rodeo. It’s located in Central Pennsylvania. Go figure.

I hate Central Pennsylvania!
