A mighty darkness slides across the land,
If thoughts alone would bring misdeed.
Ugly dreams, betrayal; A one night stand.
A frightened heart, we watch her bleed:

We watch her leaving life half lived.
For fear her mark — her stroke’s too bold.
She wants to live like grandma did.
To expectations, and what’s been told.

But no! At center lies a trouble near,
Split and torn between two ways.
A splash of beer to hide the tears,
Who’s to say: “He shall go and He shall stay?”

Her heart, her head spin round and round.
Oh hope? Oh why? “Must I dangle on this string?”
What she wants is daylight found.
A choice: which way? A wedding ring?

Oh what I would not do to find you peace.
And have you whole — your weary heartache cease!

I think this proves two things: my contempt for poetry extends to my own. And the other you’ll have to figure out on your own.
